100th Day Fun & a Freebie!

...98....99.....100!!! Our 100th day of school is almost here! Last year we surprised the students by dressing up like 100 year-old substitute teachers! OMIWORD! I almost forgot just how good we looked! lol The kiddos absolutely loved this. When I took off the wig at the end of the day, one little guy looked at me and said, "I had a feeling that was really you!!!" So funny! Guess I better be digging out my knee-highs & slippers again for Wednesday!

My firsties are sooo excited about this day {Not real sure, but I'm thinkin' that some of them think that the 100th day of school is the last day of school!} Our 100th day actually falls on February 1st, but we will be starting on some of our activities on Monday. One of our l-o-n-g-e-r activities is a little book called "My Book of 100 Words". Last week I asked the kiddos if they could write 100 words and they said, "NO WAY!" Well, won't they be surprised when we finish up our word lists in this little book and they discover that they really can write 100 words!!! If you would like a copy of this lil book, just click on the pic below! Enjoy the 100th Day FREEBIE!
I will be posting a few more 100th day activities this week! Donna over at Kinderglynn as soooo many fab-u-lous activities in her 100th Day units that I can't to dig into them!

Asking or Telling???

Asking or Telling? Telling or Asking??? Omigoodness!!! Do your kiddos ever give you that "dazed & confused" look when they are trying to come up with an asking sentence??? Well let me tell ya... one minute they can do & the next minute they get all confused. They are sticking question marks anywhere & everywhere just to try to make their sentence into an asking sentence. Yikes! So, I decided that we needed to make an anchor chart that lists the words that asking sentences begin with. If you would like to download the lil chart above, just click {HERE} or up on the chart. Below is a pic of the large anchor chart that we made. {I'm not sure that this is a complete list, but it's what we came up with...a good start for firsties!}

I just had to add another pic of our cutie-patootie groundhogs. I finally got all of them hung up today and OMIword they are sooo funny! I love how they each have their own "look"!  Especially lovin the one that looks like it might be part monkey! lol They just crack me up!!!
One of my little guys was looking at his groundhog today and said, "What do ya think?... Did I over-do the eyebrows?" {What do ya think??? .....Na!!!}

It's Groundhog Time! with a lil FREEBIE

Groundhog, Groundhog, are you still in bed??? Time to wake up you sleepyhead! Can't believe that next week is our 100th day of school and Groundhog's Day! Where did January go? I'm really excited about our 100th day. Donna over at Kinderglynn has some of the greatest 100th day activities! If you haven't checked out her blog or all of her amazing stuff on Teachers Pay Teachers...well it's a MUST!!! She is awesome!

Okay, I don't know about you guys, but I'm really REALLY hoping that groundhog does not see his shadow because I'm ready for spring!!! {I know, I know...that's not gonna happen! But I can dream right?!?} This week we have started making some Groundhog's Day predictions.
These lil cutie-patootie groundhogs do a great job of showing off the kiddos writing. This pattern & the writing sheet are both included in my "Groundhog's Day Fun" mini-unit {along with oodles of other activities.} Just click on the picture to check it out!

We have also started focusing a little more on time, so I decided to write a little book to reinforce this skill. My firsties just LOVE to make little books that they can keep! If you would like a copy of the student book, click the pic below to download you FREEBIE!

Contraction Surgery!

Is there a doctor in the house??? A "Contraction Doctor" that is!!! It's time for a little "word surgery"... just have your lil surgeons grab their scapels {scissors} & trim away those extra letters to make a new shortcut word-don't forget to bandage it back together with a Bandaid-apostrophe! It's "Contraction Surgery"! It's super-fun to  have your kiddos wear latex gloves and doctor masks also. {Maybe ask your local hospital or health department if they would donate some to your classroom.}You can also make your own from a small piece of material & thin elastic headband.

A super-big thank you to Jessica for inspiring this lil center activity pack! If you would like to check out all of the activities in this lil pack-just click HERE! You can also visit my lil shops at Teachers Pay Teachers and Teachers Notebook. Also, here is a lil freebie chart if you would like!
Just click the pic for your FREEBIE!
And WooHoo! tomorrow is Thursday! {I know Friday would be better! lol} Oh well, this week has gone pretty smoothly...no snow storms, fire drills or full moons!....so far!!!

I got this email from another teacher this week...what a hoot!!! Hope it gives you a lil chuckle too!

Wild About Winter!

Happy New Year to all my blogging friends! It seems that this holiday break just flew by & I have just 2 more days until my lil firsties return to the classroom. I promised myself that I would try really hard to stay away from my computer during our holiday break {ha ha-You know how hard that is!?!}...well I almost made it! I'll admit, winter is not my favorite season-I love a hot summer day...{and not just because I'm a teacher!! lol}but I am really anxious to get started on some super-fun winter activities with the kiddos! I absolutely LOVE snowmen & Jennifer at First Grade Blue Skies has the cutest snowmen ever in her "Lets Make a Snowman" packet-sooo loved her polka dotted arms & legs! I needed to figure out a way to make a snowman & snowlady that would go along with our jungle theme....so bring on that "zebra-print bling"!!! I used some of my leftover bulletin board border to make the zebra & leopard-print arms & legs. I just love how they turned out! Thanks for the inspiration Jennifer!

{I'll be posting some of my winter freebies before I head back to the classroom on Tuesday!}
Happy Winter!!!!
