We're counting down!
Just four more days of school and I'm trying really hard to keep my first graders in "school-mode." So... I pulled out one of our favorite books Aliens Love Underpants. Just the word underpants is enough to get my kiddos full attention! We made aliens and dressed them in funny underpants. They had a great time with this! I also incorporated a writing activity in which the students wrote about things that they really liked about first grade. Check out the pic below!!!

Save Our Earth!
I know Earth Day is in April, but we recently finished up our "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" posters and they turned out soooo stinkin' cute! I let the students work with a partner and brainstorm ways to be kind to our world. They used painted newspaper to create the grass on the posters and then drew the pictures on another sheet, cut them out & glued them to the poster. I took their dictated sentences and printed them out with a cute font I found online and... ta da!
These were so much fun and the kiddos learned so much-one thing is for sure...I CAN NOT throw even the smallest piece of paper in the trash can without someone saying, "You need to recycle that!"
I also created a pocket chart center called "Build a Green Sentence". I wrote the students' sentences on sentence strips & then cut the words apart. The students build the sentences & write them in the "Build-A-Green Sentence" mini book that I made. Just click on the link for the free mini-book!

Just wanted to say thanks!
I am so excited to finally have this page up and going! I love creating & sharing new lessons for my first graders. I want to say thanks to all of the awesome teachers out there who also share their fantastic ideas-especially my co-worker Danielle-she is awesome!
